The uplinked and still active signals were just a blank carrier, and 5 satellite transponders have been affected:
Astra, 28° east, 11895 V 27500 2/3
Astra, 19° east, 11739 V 27500 3/4
Astra, 19° east, 11973 V 27500 3/4
HotBird, 13° east, 11076 V 27500 3/4
Thor, 0°.8 west,
All this lead to a european continent with no MTV channels available, except for those not transmitting from London
(i.e. MTV Italia, MTV Adria and MTV Romania). Of course all pay-tv packages and cable operators were in trouble.
Just before 22 CET all channels on Astra 19° east and HotBird came back in the clear
along plenty of technical problems.
On Astra 28° east, and Thor the encryption didn't go off, except for MTV Snax (MTV Interactive) on Astra 28° east.
In a few hours everything came back to normal and at 2:58 the channels were encrypted again.
